Ernie Davis: A Gym Hidden in Plain Site

Ernie Davis is a modern facility that offers a range of fitness equipment and amenities, including free access for students with an SUID and affordable guest passes for non-students. Located in a prime spot for pedestrians, the gym offers a beautiful view while you work out and easy access to lockers and food options. In this review, we'll take a closer look at what the Ernie Davis building has to offer and help you decide if it's the right fit for your fitness goals. I would give this gym a 4 out of 6.

  • Cost: Similarly to the Barnes Center, Ernie Davis also is free for students with an SUID, which is a major plus. And even for non-students, the $8 guest pass fee is quite reasonable.

  • Location: The gym's location is another major factor to consider. While it's prime for pedestrians, those driving on the walk might find it challenging. If you plan to drive to the gym, be prepared for a bit of a commitment to the walk over.

  • Newness: The Ernie Davis building is relatively new, with a modern design that allows for a beautiful view while you're working out. However, it's worth noting that the gym is focused on free weights, so if you're someone who prefers machines, they might be booked out due to the fact that they aren't the main focus of the gym.

  • Hours and offerings: The gym's hours of operation are decent but not the best on campus. It's open from 8am to 10pm on weekdays and 10am to 10pm on weekends. We would like to believe that his is more representative of the college students here on Syracuse Campus, because most people hate their 8am classes. The gym's focus on free weights might also be limiting for some, but it could be a plus for others who prefer that style of workout.

  • Access to lockers: The Ernie Davis building offers plenty of access to lockers, which is a major plus. In fact, they might even be more plentiful than those at the Barnes Center due to the fact that, there are many that were left open unlike those at the Barnes Center.

  • Food and drink options: Another major plus of the Ernie Davis building is the fact that there's an entire cafeteria under the gym. This allows for easy access to food and drink options before or after your workout, which is a great convenience.

The Ernie Davis building offers a great option for Syracuse University students looking for a free gym with good access to lockers and food options. While the gym's focus on free weights might be limiting for some, its modern design and convenient location make it a solid choice for many. The gym's hours of operation could be better, but they're appropriate for most college students. Overall, if you're looking for an affordable and convenient gym option on campus, the Ernie Davis building is definitely worth considering.
