Unpacking the Barnes Center: A Balanced Review of One of Syracuse's Fitness Hubs

As a college student, staying fit and healthy is essential, and the Barnes Center is one of the places that offer such services. In this blog, we will provide a comprehensive review of the Barnes Center based on a rating system that includes costs, location, access to lockers, newness, hours/offerings, and food/drink options. Our overall rating of the Barnes Center a 4.5 out of 6

Costs: The Barnes Center is free for students, which is a major plus for college students on a budget. However, if you want to bring a guest, it will cost $8 per day, per guest.

Location: The Barnes Center is located at Archbold Gymnasium, 150 Sims Dr, Syracuse, NY 13244. While the location is convenient for most students, the parking may not be the most accessible. If you are driving, you may need to plan ahead for parking or potentially find an alternative way to get there while classes are in session.

Access to Lockers: While the Barnes Center has many lockers, a vast majority of them are either broken or being used for recreational purposes outside of gym use. This can be frustrating for students who need a locker to store their belongings while they exercise.

Newness: The Barnes Center is very new, having been recently reconstructed. This means that the equipment and facilities are modern and up-to-date.

Hours/Offerings: The Barnes Center is open from 6:30 a.m. - 11 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. - 11 p.m. on weekends. This is a wide range of hours, allowing students to find a convenient time to exercise. The barnes center has more then plenty to offer to include:

  • Free weights

  • Stationary Machines

  • Pool

The Barnes Center has so much to offer that, if you would like to look at some that are not listed, take some time and head over to our Instagram and Twitter, where they can display more of what the Barnes Center has to offer.

Food/Drink Options: The Barnes Center has a cafe that sells a variety of drinks. However, it closes at 8 p.m., which may not be convenient for students who exercise later in the evening.

Overall, the Barnes Center is a good facility for students looking to stay fit and healthy. With its modern equipment and facilities, as well as free access for students, it is definitely worth checking out. However, the issues with locker availability and parking may be a drawback for some students. It is also worth noting that the food/drink options are limited, with the cafe closing early. We hope this review helps students make informed decisions about the Barnes Center and enjoy all the services it can offer.
